Facial feminization surgery, which includes a series of procedures to change the shape of the face and make it more feminine, can also be performed as a phase of gender reassignment surgery.
As with most maxillofacial skeletal surgery procedures, the procedure is simulated and designed in 3D.
The most commonly performed procedures are:
Forehead contour. In men, the forehead ridges tend to be pronounced. In women, the forehead contour tends to be higher, smoother, and more rounded. To make the forehead more feminine, part of the frontal bone is trimmed, removed, reshaped, and replaced (frontal setback).
Blepharoplasty and canthoplasty
Increased volume of the cheekbones. Women tend to have prominent round cheeks in the middle third of the face. This is due to a higher concentration of fat in the area.
To achieve a more feminine appearance, customized facial implants ( zygomatic prostheses) are used.
Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty). Rhinoplasty for facial feminization often includes tip plasty and rotation.
Lip lift and augmentation.
Mandibular angle reduction. The male jaw is typically larger and wider than the female jaw. The jaw can be reduced and narrowed with profile surgery.
Reduction of chin width by means of reduction mentoplasty
